If you're looking for a place to build your home
page or store your files, check out this impressive list of services who offer free
webspace. Be prepared to accept some advertising gimmicks for their free offers.
Some, such as Geocities, have those annoying pop-up window ads and others, such as
Xoom, paste their header on at the top of your pages. Methods vary with the hosting
service. All in all, even with the ads, it's a pretty good deal. Most offer a
multitude of goodies, such as page counters, guest books and page building tools.
Keep in mind these services give you webspace so they can sell advertising.
The more members they collect, the more valuable their ad space becomes. We
can't speak for all the services on this list but we have tried many of them at one time
or another.
Acme City
20 MB of space, community environment, email, message board, HTML help. Fairly large
header will appear at the top of your pages but it includes a search engine.

5 MB of space, community environment, page counters, page editor, graphics library you can
link to and not use up your webspace, no paid ads allowed but you may promote your own
business, free email is available. Angelfire is owned by Lycos. It appears the
ads appear on their pages but none are placed on your pages.

seems a fair price for what you get for free.

Television
25 MB of space, access to RealServer, unlimited transfer. No
commercial sites and you must join to receive your space. Very nice site for anyone
interested in audio/video web publication. No ads are required.

or a virtual domain (yourname.fsn.net) in exchange for placing their ads at the top and
bottom of your pages. Unlimited data transfer, no set up fee and your own FTP
account. There are very few services offered and the ads on the pages are a pain but
there are almost no limitations on content. Adult sites are welcome as long as they
remain within fsn's guidelines.
Geocities
11 MB of space, large community environment, tons of goodies including, counters, guest
book, search box, games, headlines and java. Geocities is one of the oldest and
largest of the free web space providers and has recently teamed up with Yahoo.com.

the top of your page banner ads.
TheGlobe.com
12 MB of space, very large community environment, free email, page building tools,
calendar and address book. Services and goodies too numerous to mention. Large

pages.
Homepages for the
Homepageless
3 MB of space, guest book, page counter, other items available for free area. A bit
off-beat community type setup. Site is hard to navigate but interesting. Small

TrailorPark.com.
Hometown
AOL
2 MB of space per screen name. (You can have up to 5 screen names per account so it could
total 10 MB of space) Community style environment, well policed for violations of
building regulations, quick, easy page builder, search features, guest book, counters and
other features. Nice for AOL users. Large header appears on the top of your

included for your page and membership. Membership to iVillage is required to get

from MailCity, easy to use page builder, graphics and photo library, page templates and
other features. Lycos is affiliated with Tripod and Angelfire.
Max Pages
100 pages to a site. Max Pages does not create true
HTML files so the limit is expressed in pages rather than megabytes. Use of images
is restricted to MaxPages' library. Using your own images or HTML files disqualifies
you from their free status. Guest book, search and lots of other goodies.
Banner ads are placed on your pages by their page builder.
McAfee Online
15 MB of space to be used for homepage or personal file storage that is accessible from
any of your computers, email account, online calendar, photo album, message board, address
book and task list. From the creators of the best known virus protection programs,
their Briefcase deal is hard to beat. Unknown if ads are required on your pages.but
with all they offer it would be a small price to pay. You have to see this one to
believe it.
MSN Homepages
12 MB of space, large community type environment, page builder service with lots of
templates and high-tech features, EZ Web Transfer to move your existing site to your new
MSN address, free email account available from HotMail, keyword search of members' pages,
and much more. Annoying pop-up ad window, but worth the aggravation for what you
receive. Typical of MicroSoft, it has it all and it's user friendly.
MyFamily.Com
Unsure of the space limits but it must be sizable due to the features they offer.
Personal news bulletin board, calendar, family album, family file cabinet for sharing
GEDCOM files and others, chat area with notification of who's online, email handler,
bookmark organizer, family tree viewer, recipe file, kids pages and much more. If

follow their templates and their logo and ads appear on your pages.

page builder and access to chat, bulletin boards and more. Large header
ad/navigation bar appears on the top of all your pages.

Good service and no catches other than an occasional email ad from ProHosting.
Spree.com
Unlimited space when you sign up as a partner and put their products on your page, guest
book, page counter, chat, and more. Your site serves as an advertising billboard for
their products but you get paid for it and all the free space you want. Works out
well for some people.

extensions, CGI and Perl, DNS, Real Audio Streaming, free email, and newsgroups.
Notice: Free Service has been suspended. Unknown if it will be available at a
later date.
Tripod
11 MB of space, page builder, lots of great options, large community style environment,
lots of page goodies, and images. Annoying pop-up ads. Still one of the best
available free deals in spite of the pop-up window.
Virtual Avenue
20 MB of space, CGI access, SSI, Frontpage, FTP support, unlimited traffic, domain
transfer, www.yourname.com or a virtual domain - www.yourname.virtualave.net, and much
more. You are given a choice of putting their banner ad at the top of your pages or
having a pop-up window ad. This deal seams almost too good to be true.
Notice: If you choose to use a domain name, there is a $70 fee from InterNik
but no charge from Virtual Avenue for their assistance in securing it.
Web Jump
25 MB of space, unlimited bandwith, Standard Perl/CGI/Scripts, page
builder, file manager utility, and other goodies. Good service and support. A
header with ads appears at the top of all your pages.
Xoom!
Unlimited space, yes I did say UNLIMITED. They increased their old deal of 11 MB and
threw in a few more deals to boot. Large community style environment, free email
account, huge library of clipart, page builder, affiliate deals offered, chat room and
lots more. A moderate navigation bar/ad apears at the top of your pages but it's
worth it for what you get. One drawback is their slow speed.
